From pictures to numbers
Your deliverables aren't just something to look at — they carry real, measured geometry you can turn into distances, areas, elevations, and volumes right in the browser.
Distances & areas
On the 2D Aerial Map, open the measurement tools, choose Distance or Area, and click points on the map. Totals update live, and you can export everything as GeoJSON, KML, KMZ, or CSV. (See the 2D Aerial Map guide for step-by-step.)
Elevation & contours
When your project includes elevation data (from the point cloud or an elevation layer), you can read the shape of the land:
- Elevation profile — trace a line across the site to get a cross-section chart of elevation vs. distance, in feet or meters. Great for reading slopes, drainage, and grade changes.
- Contour lines — turn the terrain into familiar topographic contours. You can set the contour interval (spacing between lines) and emphasize a major line every few contours, then export the result as DXF for CAD.
Volumes (cut & fill)
For stockpiles, pits, and earthwork, the full cut/fill volume calculator lives on your project's Details page under Terrain Analysis. It computes material volume from an elevation surface, so it's available on projects that include an elevation (DSM/DTM) layer:
- Open the Details page and find the Terrain Analysis panel.
- It measures against a reference level (base plane) to split the result into cut (material above), fill (material below), and net volume.
- Results come in cubic yards or cubic meters, alongside the covered area.
- If your site was flown more than once, comparison mode measures how much material moved between two dates — perfect for tracking a stockpile or a grading job over time.
The 3D viewers also offer a quick area-based volume estimate (shown with a "~") for a fast ballpark, but the Details-page calculator is the one to use for true cut/fill numbers.
How to open the tools
- Distance / Area → the 2D Map tab.
- Angle measurement → the Point Cloud tab (it needs true 3D points).
- Elevation profile (cross-section) → the Point Cloud viewer, or your project's Details page.
- Contour lines → the 2D Map's elevation layer.
- Cut / fill volumes → your project's Details page (Terrain Analysis).
Tips
- Every number here is built for planning and estimating. It's highly accurate, but it isn't a legal land survey — exported measurements say so automatically.
- Set feet vs. meters once in viewer settings and all the tools follow.
- Comparing two flights is the fastest way to answer "how much changed?" — line up the dates and let the tool do the subtraction.
